Mai 2023 – Visiting dear friends in L’Isle sur la Sorgue en Provence

It was a wonderful visit – a charming Venice like little treasure in the Luberon. Rivers like the Sorgue meander through the old town with formerly over 60 water wheels due to its textile industry. Industry is gone but quite a number of those water wheels still turn and surprise the visitor by its simple presence. Colourful Sunday market, its mediaval small streets enjoy heart and soul. Its beautiful buildings, the giant church and many of the noble houses were influenced by the times when the Popes were ruling out of Avignon. Only a few hours away. Le Pont du Gard, a Roman masterpiece and other Roman buidlings contribute to the historic charme of the Provence. Lovely villages, hidden monasteries, and a quick tour through Avignon on the way back from Pond du Gard. The visit of the Asylum where Vincent van Gogh spent his last living days – what an end for a Genius.
